Misdemeanor is dragging a skeleton half out of my closet

So after several years of owning Guitar Hero, Misdemeanor picked it back up and attempted it again. After listening to several horrible songs they made him play, my ears picked up a familiar song of my youth. Little did I know he would be singing the chorus over and over again after he stopped playing the game.

Still trying to get him to learn that different appearances are good and that people with mohawks are cool. Think he would have a hard time with the concept that Mommy used to be one of those goth/punk weirdos.

  1. A nephew of mine was playing that game a while back, and I also was surprised to hear this Dead Kennedy's gem coming out from the game.

I sat up and paid attention....and was not surprised to hear that they did in fact clean up some of the lyrics for the game. lol

  2. How interesting. I am not a video game player---haven't been since I was a preteen, but odd that they'd have Dead Kennedys featured on a game.

I never really fit into the whole punk/goth scene. The punk kids were always too angry for my tastes and I never felt sufficiently entranced by goth. I was more an indie/arty kid with the appropriate sense of alienation. I laugh now at how seriously I took myself.

  3. I was never a fan of the music of my generation and less of a fan of the music of succeeding generations. I stuck with my very early taste in music and that was Jazz. I may occasionally post a piece of music, but it will either be jazz or a more modern interpretation of either classical music or jazz played by a new artist.

And I hate the very idea of video games since I think kids should be outside riding bikes and playing games and generally fooling around in the great out doors. I know, I'm really really old and out of touch.

  4. Comrade-this was way way back. I graduated HS in the late 80's. We were happy goths. Still laugh at the youth of today and think pffft, I did that 20 years ago.

Utah-Always had a wide variety of musical tastes. Have been enthralled with Billy Holiday, Benny Goodman and occasionally, even the Andrew Sisters. And really do agree regarding your point of video games. I would actually like to see him play a little more. He hasn't turned it on in about 2 months. I specifically bought the Wii system since it is whole body movement. Misdemeanor is autistic and bike riding is years away due to current functioning skills. Playing games requires social skills which he is still working on. And he does have a tendency to bolt away from environments he's not familiar with or overwhelming. Trying to balance intense therapy with a typical childhood is a fine line.

  5. When we started playing Rock Band this past winter, the kids were somewhat surprised at how many of the lyrics MathMan and I knew of older songs. Since we typically don't listen to music that would be classified as classic rock, they just weren't exposed to it nor our knowledge of that kid of music.

It got more interesting when we realized that the kids like some of those old songs. Just don't try to get the admit it around their friends.....
